SinChi Wu
I began my martial arts journey from a young age.
My parents felt it was good for my health and to hopefully teach me some form of self-defence.
Coming from a Chinese cultural background meant Kung Fu was always seen as a positive form of training and we began the often difficult process of finding the right school.
Having experienced a number of different martial arts schools, I came across Nam Pai Chuan in 1995 after seeing a poster advertising its first class in Chiswick, and I’ve stuck with this ever since.
My first instructor was Sifu Matthew Gluck whom started the Chiswick centre. After his retirement from the system, Sifu Jerome DeSilva took over and grew the class into its current success, drawing in not only adults but also a large number of children to participate in the classes. I can easily say that I have learned from some of the best instructors here who have taught me with passion and skill.
After all these years of training, Kung Fu has become a lifestyle that is embedded within my body, to not be able to train would normally result in me feeling unwell.
The diverse range of skills, knowledge and techniques within Nam Pai Chuan has led me on a lifelong journey of discovery which I feel I am still scratching the surface of today.
What Kung Fu has given me and specifically NPC is confidence, the ability to believe in myself and understand that to commit to something and train hard yields positive returns.
My aim is to pass this onto all the students I have the privilege of teaching at my centre in North Kensington.
In addition to all the skills that NPC has given me, I have also obtained an extended family, not by blood but through sharing our passion for the art.
For those I have trained a number of years with I have come to view those as my brothers and sisters. My own students in their own way are like my own children.
I want to ensure that I can inspire them to excellence in the hope that they will develop the same passion and pass on the knowledge to the next generation of students. That way, the continuance of this timeless traditional art is preserved.
